Teams and League Structure
These six football teams form the core of the new league for young athletes. The Birmingham Elite Steelers, Wylam Gators, Crestwood Colonels, Titusville Thundering Herd, West End Panthers, and Birmingham Vulcans each represent different parts of the city and give participants structured play under the oversight of the Mayor’s Office, Birmingham Park and Recreation, and the Department of Youth Services.
Program Goals and Support
The Birmingham Youth Sports League focuses on building character, community, and opportunity. It combines athletic training with mentorship and academic support, creating a no-cost pathway for ages 6-12 that also includes cheerleading. Additional local groups such as i9 Sports and the Lakeshore Foundation run separate leagues and inclusive programs that cover aquatics and athletics for youth with disabilities.
