Birmingham Farmers Markets Offer Peak Season Produce This July

Birmingham residents can stock up on strawberries at £3.50 a punnet and courgettes at £1.80 a kilo this month at the city's farmers markets, where growers report strong yields after the wet spring.

Seasonal buying cuts food miles and supports soil health in the West Midlands, where supermarket vegetable prices rose 12 percent between May and June according to the Office for National Statistics. July marks the peak window for local brassicas and berries before autumn crops take over, giving households a chance to adjust meal plans around what arrives in crates each weekend.

Markets drawing crowds in Moseley and Harborne

The Moseley Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9am to 2pm on St Mary's Row, where more than 30 stalls line the street outside the old library building. Vendors there sell produce picked the previous day from farms within 30 miles of the city centre. A second weekly option runs on Saturdays at Harborne High Street, organised by the Harborne Food Initiative, which began its 2026 season on 4 April and continues through October.

Both locations sit within easy reach of residential neighbourhoods, letting shoppers combine market trips with visits to nearby independent bakeries for wholegrain loaves to pair with fresh tomatoes.

Prices and availability this weekend

Market records from last July show average spend per customer at £18.40, with salad bags moving fastest at £2.50 each. This year the same items remain available through at least 26 July, after which the focus shifts to early apples and root vegetables. Shoppers should arrive before 11am for the widest selection, as popular items such as broad beans sell out by midday.
